In Order to Form a More Perfect Union …
By: Andrew | July 16th, 2009
These words, taken from the US Constitution, try to convey the message that the government is a work in progress, something that cannot be considered complete and “perfect” without much effort and tweaking. The Philadelphia Union, and to a lesser degree this brand spankin’ new blog here at The Offside, are in the same situation. Both are starting at square one, from the ground floor, with a clean slate, [insert additional overused cliché here], and will only get better over time.
As the days, weeks, and months pass until the team’s inaugural match at Seaport Drive, major events will be happening. From stadium construction milestones to player signings, from uniform unveiling to jersey sponsorship announcement, these are exciting times for fans of the Union.

Andrew, there is nothing better than being involved in something like this from the ground up.
Welcome aboard from the Red Bulls blog. Though I am sure pleasantries will end once the Union is officially in the league
All the best brother. Great opener.

Thanks for the well-wishes, Dave. The rivalries up and down the northeast corridor will be something to experience, that’s for sure. Can’t wait to visit Red Bull Arena next season.

Andrew,
Welcome to the Offside. I hope you have fun here, as it can be a blast.
One thing unique to the MLS and writing on the Internet is the potential for a close FO relationship. I’ve been in contact with Carl Cherkin and recommend it if you’d like to try and get a bit more on the inside. His email is ccherkin@philadelphiaunion.com and he seemed very nice. I could either email him on your behalf or you could go ahead and email him as well. Any questions for me, email mlsoffside@gmail.com. Thanks, and welcome aboard.

Welcome to the Offside. As a Philadelphia native, I’m thrilled to see the city finally get an MLS franchise. Once my adopted-city Timbers get in, I’ll have slightly mixed loyalties, but against any other MLS side, I’ll root for the Union.

I’ve never really liked Philadelphia teams. Well, maybe the Flyers and Mike Schmidt. Welcome aboard anyway.
Dallas sucks.

welcome aboard. Great to see the Union blog up and running already. I live about 20 minutes out of Philly while I’m at Uni, I’ll definitely be taking in some Union games this season.
