Odds and Ends, Bits and Pieces.
By: Andrew | November 5th, 2009Been a few weeks since I’ve posted, as all is very quiet on the Union front. There’s plenty going on behind the scenes, with Nowak and his team scouting players and preparing for the MLS Expansion Draft on the 25th (hope to finish up my draft analysis soon, and post it before it actually happens), among other things.
It’s the calm before the storm, people.
The construction down at Seaport Drive is progressing very nicely. A half dozen of the roof trusses have been installed along the west side (above what will be Sections 108-112), angled steel for the seating is being placed, and precast concrete seating risers are starting to give a real human scale to the stadium. Interior construction photos have been posted to the team’s Facebook page.
Television commercials touting the team’s arrival and season ticket sales are being broadcasted in the area. If you’re not from the Delaware Valley, or even if you are and haven’t caught them on the tellie, click on THIS LINK to see them for yourself.
Kinda looks like we signed Drogba, don’t it, albeit wearing a very generic kit?
Which provides a nice little segue. Here we are, 3 weeks until Thanksgiving, and rumors have our jerseys officially being released prior to then. Shipments are supposed to be arriving in local retailers just in time for Black Friday and the holiday shopping season. Perhaps an image or two will be leaked to the internets, but I doubt it. In the meantime, I can only provide these results from a Google image search to tide you over until we see the real deal. And maybe, just maybe, the front office will take a page from the Seattle Sounders playbook and have an official release fashion show.
Work it, Drew!!

Just a thought, have Philly supporter’s ever considered singing “Power in a Union” as a club song? Billy Bragg did a version of it at this year’s Newport Folk Festival, and I thought it sounded fairly doable for your fan base. Its the kind of thing the supporters section would sing before the teams take the field.

Chris …
I know the Sons of Ben have an extensive song-list setup so far for the Union matches, but I can’t say for sure if “Power in a Union” is on there.
I do know there is a push to sing “I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover” before all home games as the teams take the field. It is very popular in Philadelphia with the New Year’s Day Mummer Parade, and was played at various team announcements the SoBs took part in.
